Noted events in his life were: • Research Notes: Harris, James of New London, Connecticut and His Descendants; From 1640 to 1878 by Nathaniel Harris Morgan, 1878. 1 "Samuel is a locomotive engineer, and has run an engine on the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western railroad for the last eighteen years. On January 15, 1863, his engine broke through a defective draw-bridge at Hackensack, carrying himself and three others with it, to the bottom of the river, two of whom were drowned, one scalded, and he only escaping by remarkable presence of mind in clearing himself while under water from his overcoat, which had become entangled with the engine." Samuel married Emily JONDREAU on 14 Oct 1867. (Emily JONDREAU was born on 23 Jul 1845 in Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont.) |
