• Research Notes. ⁹ Many reseachers have James' parents as William Jackson Heath and Minerva Thacker. This is wrong and I have not entered this information into my family file.
1. Birthdates and ages do not match up.
2. Census sheets show William Jackson Heath and Minerva Thackers' son James was born in 1855 and was mentally handicapped. He is also still living with William Jackson and Minerva in the 1880 census.
3. Our James' Heath was born between 1840 and 1843. He is found on the 1880 cenus with his wife Ophelia (Ofelda) and his children Robert, James, Ada, and Ida. His marriage license states his parents are William and Polly Heath.

James married Ophelia ELLETT on 22 Mar 1871 in Stokes County, North Carolina.¹ (Ophelia ELLETT was born on 15 May 1852 in Stokes County, North Carolina, died on 13 Nov 1926 in Dan River, Patrick County, Virginia ¹⁰ and was buried on 14 Nov 1926 in Heath Cemetery on 644/645, Patrick County, Virginia ¹¹.)
