• Obituary/Death Notice: Newark Evening News, 6 Mar 1941. 10 Leonard Spawn of 11 Bell street, Irvington, died last night in Irvington General Hospital after suffering a heart attack Tuesday. He was 82. A baker, Mr. Spawn, won prizes at the state fair five successive years many years ago. He retired in 1931.
Mr. Spawn lived in Irvington 28 years after operating bakeries in Newark and Schencetady, N.Y. Always physically active, he made it a point to walk 10 miles a day up to the time he suffered the heart attack.
He was a member and former secretary of The 100-Year Club of Newark and was secretary and chairman of the organization committee of the Townsend Recovery Plan Club No. 1 of Irvington.
Mr. Spawn leaves five brothers, John C. and Theodore of Newark, Richard P. of Elizabeth, Benjamin of Houston, Tex., and J. Norman of Washington; a sister, Mrs. Welles R. Fox of Binghamton; two daughters, Mrs. Edith J. Ash of West Orange and Mrs. Maude Schaible of Irvington; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday in the Joseph J. Manger & Son Home for Funerals, 1200 Cllinton avenue, Irvington. Burial will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Union Township.

SPAWN - On Wednesday, March 5, 1941, Leonard, beloved husband of the late Bertha Spawn (nee Stasse); devoted father of Mrs. Edith J. Ash and Mrs. Maude E. Schaible, of 11 Bell Street, Irvington. Relatives and friends, also members of the Hundred Year Club, are kindly invited to attend the funeral services at the "Joseph J. Manger & Son Home for Funerals," 1200 Clinton avenue, corner Orange avenue, two blocks above Irvington Center, on Saturday, March 8, at 3 P.M. Interment in Hollywood Cemetery.


Leonard married Barbara J. STUSSE, daughter of Fredolin STUSSE and Johanna KOGE, in 1879. (Barbara J.
