A family source says that Bertha was a member of the Eastern Star and a society lady. They moved to Schenectady, N.Y. and her husband, Len Spawn, bought a bakery. Seems Bertha was always getting into the till to buy lots of dresses. Bakery later failed. • Obituary/Death Notice: Newark Evening News, 4 Oct 1927. 12 SPAWN - At Irvington, N.J., on Monday, October 3, 1927, Barbara J. (nee Stusse). Beloved wife of Leonard, in her 69th year. Relatives and friends, also Harmony Chapter No. 46, O.E.S.; Armistice Court and Jersey City White Shrine, are invited to attend funeral services at her residence, 11 Bell street, Tuesday, October 4, at 8 P.M. Interment in Hollywod Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Albany papers please copy. Barbara married Leonard SPAWN, son of Peter SPAWN and Josephine B. MARSH, in 1879. (Leonard SPAWN was born on 18 Jul 1859 in New Jersey, died on 5 Mar 1941 in Irvington, Essex County, New Jersey and was buried on 8 Mar 1941 in Hollywood Cemetery, Union, Union County, New Jersey.) |
