• Obituary/Death Notice: Newark Evening News, 18 Oct 1918. 23 Frank Ulman of 31 Cortlandt street was struck and instantly killed at Fleming avenue and Chapel street last night by an automobile truck owned and driven by John W. Chales of Dunellen. Ulman's skull was fractured.
Chales was arrested and arraigned this morning in the Third Precinct Court on a technical charge of manslaughter, later being turned over to the prosecutor's office, where bail will be arranged. The police said that Chales was not driving fast and that Ulman did not notice the machine until too late to escape. Ulman was forty-three years old. His body was taken to Mullin's morgue.
