John ROGERS
(1648-1721) |
John ROGERS 1
Noted events in his life were: • Research Notes: Rogers, James of New London, Connecticut. 1 "John Rogers' home farm extended on both sides of the Norwich road, two miles from New London, and was called Mamacock farm, from the small rocky peninsula of that name which was one of its eastern boundaries. It was bordered for some distance by the Thames River. The central portion, Mamacock proper - was originally a grant to Rev. Mr. Blinman. It was but a part of his landed estate, much of which he disposed of in his life-time by gift. He was buried upon the bank of the Thames within the bounds of his Mamacock farm. This portion was set aside as a burial place, and was secured by his son John to his descendants for this purpose, by a deed dated November 13, 1751. It has been crossed by the raillroad, and a portion bordering on the river was washed away by the great "September gale" (September 23, 1815). A part of this burial place is still intact." John married Elizabeth GRISWOLD, daughter of Matthew GRISWOLD and Ann WOLCOTT, on 17 Oct 1670 in Blackhall, Lyme, Connecticut. (Elizabeth GRISWOLD was born in 1652 and died in Jul 1727.) John next married Mary RANSFORD on 6 Jun 1699 in County Court, New London, Connecticut. John next married Sarah COLE in 1714 in Block Island, Rhode Island. |
