Noted events in his life were: • Immigration: Came to America in 1632. • Research Notes: Lord, Thomas; Genealogy of the Descendants by Kenneth Lord; 1946. 2 "Richard Lord was one of the most energetic and efficient men in the colony. When the first Troop of Horsemen was organized, he was chosen commander, March 11, 1658, and distinguished himself in the Indian Wars. He was a constable in 1642, townsman in 1645, and represented Hartford in the General Court from 1656 until his death. He became a very prominent citizen and in addition to being captain of cavalry, wsa a ship owner in the carrying trade between New London and the West Indies. He found it necessary to have a home in New London, Connecticut, where he purchased a corner on Main and Pearl Streets." Richard married Sarah GRAVES in 1635. (Sarah GRAVES died in 1676.) |
